Our Services
The Salt Lake County Department of Human Services provides assistance to the community through the following departments:
Aging Services provides options and opportunities that help older adults remain independent and living in the community with dignity and respect offering a wide variety of programs and services, such as senior centers, employment and volunteer opportunities, and Meals on Wheels, Aging Services is the community’s one-stop shop for older adults, their families and caregivers.
Community Resources & Development provides resources and partnerships to address individual, family and community needs through programs such as housing assistance, refugee assistance, community and economic development, homeless assistance, public computer access, and targeted social services.
Criminal Justice Services offers jail alternatives for Salt Lake County residents, including jail release, supervision, education, treatment, competency development, and offender accountability. Programs include Pre-trial Services, Day Reporting Center and Re-Entry Services, Probation Services, Mental Health Court and Drug Court.
Salt Lake Valley Health Department offers a wide variety of services designed to promote and protect community and environmental health. The Health Department is comprised of Community Health Services, Family Health Services, Environmental Health Services, and Medical Office.
Salt Lake County Library Services provides a wealth of materials in a variety of formats, as well as dynamic events, exhibits, electronic resources, special services and promotions. Our 18 libraries throughout the county give patrons of all ages the information and entertainment they want most.
Mental Health Services works with local providers and partners to provide mental health information and referrals, counseling, and treatment for those with mental illness.
Substance Abuse Services works with local substance abuse providers to provide a wide range of treatment options for those struggling with addiction and prevention options for youth who are at-risk of using alcohol, tobacco and drugs.
Youth Services helps children, youth, and families in crisis with immediate safety, shelter and support. Programs include the Juvenile Receiving Center, Children’s Justice Center, Counseling, Shelter Care, Safe Place, In-Home Services, and Junior High After School programs.
